STEVE SOYKA ELECTED SHERIFF
Steve Soyka, former Commander of the Central Minnesota Violent Offender Task Force, was elected Stearns County Sheriff on Tuesday. With 98 of 98 precincts reporting, Steve Soyka received 34,771 votes, nearly 57 percent of the vote in Stearns County.
Sheriff-elect Soyka released the following statement:
"I am happy and excited to have been elected Stearns County Sheriff. Over the last few months I have been all across Stearns County talking about the Sheriff’s Office, and I've had many conversations about how we can improve public safety in our community. I am excited to start my work as Sheriff, and I will bring an improved level of service to Stearns County. For all those who supported me in some way throughout this campaign, I cannot say thank you enough. It was truly an incredible journey and you all helped so much along the way. For those of you that voted for me, thank you and be assured I will fulfill the role of Sheriff to the best of my abilities. To those of you that did not vote for me, I hope to gain your trust and confidence in the future. I hope to talk to more of you as time goes on and alleviate any concerns that you may have.
"There will be some tough challenges in the coming months and while things will not change overnight, in time I hope you notice the improvements that I will bring to the Sheriff’s Office. I look forward to the future of the Sheriff’s Office and the future of working with the citizens of Stearns County to keep our community safe."
