Yesterday I had the opportunity and pleasure to be invited to the change of command ceremony for the 367th Engineer Battalion in St. Joseph. This ceremony marks the change of the commander of the Reserve center with the old commander leaving and a new commander taking the lead for the next couple of years. The Stearns County Sheriff Office SWAT team works with the St. Joseph Police Department and the Army command staff yearly to conduct active shooter exercises and to test Army personnel reaction to such incidents at the St. Joseph Army Reserve Center.
This fulfills a requirement from Washington DC for the Army in conducting these drills yearly and the facility provides a valuable training location for Law Enforcement to practice. Through this mutual work both the Army and Law Enforcement have developed a relationship in an effort to better be prepared.
As your Sheriff I will continue to develop this relationship and will strive to work with the Army and other law enforcement agencies to better ourselves, and the community around us. It was an honor to be able to attend this event, and I’m extremely grateful for all the men and women who have served in our armed forces.
